Hugh Jackman’s Return as Wolverine Could Usher in Legacy Characters for MCU

Date:

Key Takeaways:
– Hugh Jackman set to reprise his iconic role as Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine.
– Disney and Marvel Studios could use Deadpool & Wolverine to introduce Jackman’s Wolverine successor.
– Akihiro, better known as Daken and Laura Kinney or X-23, may become the MCU’s new Wolverine.
– Daken could perfectly fit into the MCU narrative, adding a new layer to the universe’s mutant line-up.
– Allowing legacy characters to take over from Jackman ensures Wolverine’s continuous presence in the MCU.

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Return: Set to Ignite a New Era?

Celebrated actor Hugh Jackman is set to reclaim his role as the iconic Wolverine for the first time since his departure in 2017’s Logan. This news will thrill fans worldwide as they eagerly await the forthcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie. Anyone wondering about the toll the physical requirements of the role take on Jackman can rest easy. The actor’s return does not necessarily indicate he will become the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine: Introducing Successors and Legacy Characters

Deadpool & Wolverine’s release provides an opportunity for Disney to introduce Jackman’s successor. Jackman’s swansong as Wolverine could pivot to feature a younger actor or possibly parade a legacy character in the role. Marvel Studios might even choose a character variant of Wolverine, like his numerous children, to continue the narrative. Characters such as Akihiro (or Daken), Laura Kinney (X-23), and even James Hudson Jr. from the Ultimate Marvel Universe, could make their way into the MCU.

Daken: A Potential Successor

Born to Wolverine and his wife Itsu, Daken, or Akihiro, was raised by a well-to-do family after Itsu was assassinated by Wolverine’s enemies. The tragic backstory combined with many bitter clashes with his father shaped Daken’s complex character. He eventually reinvented himself as an anti-hero while assisting his half-sisters, Wolverine and Honey Badger. Daken, who doesn’t currently bear the Wolverine title, could perfectly fit into the MCU, especially with groups like the Thunderbolts. Bringing Daken into the MCU might provide fresh story arcs while retaining the popular Wolverine character.

A Legacy for Wolverine in the MCU

Allowing legacy characters like Daken to succeed Jackman means fans can still enjoy Jackman’s performances while keeping Wolverine a fixture in the MCU. In retrospect, the MCU has drawn inspiration from the Ultimate Marvel timeline, possibly a formula they could recreate for Wolverine with characters such as James Hudson Jr.

Characters like Hudson Jr. from the Ultimate Universe could be pivotal in sustaining Wolverine’s aura in the MCU. Possessing all of Logan’s standard powers, James Hudson Jr. could act as the Ultimate Timeline’s Wolverine, fortified by the ability to armor his skeleton with an organic metal, essentially making him Wolverine 2.0.

Imagining a New Wolverine in the MCU

While the Marvel Universe has largely neglected the character, an amalgamation of James Hudson Jr. and Akihiro could inspire the MCU’s Wolverine. If the new Wolverine becomes a variant of Logan sharing the same name, it would merely create an illusion of a legacy character. However, it would fulfill its true purpose of presenting a Wolverine character referring to himself as Logan.

In conclusion, Jackman’s return and the possibility of branching into legacy characters could be a game-changer for the MCU. Fresh yet familiar, these characters could add depth to the universe’s mutant line-up while retaining the essence of the iconic Wolverine character.
