And guess what? Netflix is helping him do it!

About ‘Frankenstein’

Del Toro has a strong affection for the Frankenstein novel, and he’s not shy about sharing it. In fact, he once described the project as something he “would kill to make.” He planned to create a faithful version of the story, portraying it as a ‘Miltonian tragedy.’

Despite his passion for the project, del Toro initially refused an offer from Universal to direct a series of monster-oriented movies, including Frankenstein. However, his dedication to the story never waivered, with him creating script notes and concept art for his adaptation as early as 2008. Over the years, there’s been much speculation about the movie’s scope. Occasionally, del Toro hinted that it might need two or three to cover the book’s complexity.

‘Frankenstein’ Cast:

Rather than being a direct adaptation, del Toro’s Frankenstein will feature an “adventure story that involves the creature.”

Although different approaches have been considered over the years, the current logline for the film is “Set in Eastern Europe in the 19th Century, the story of Dr. Pretorius, who needs to track down Frankenstein’s monster- who is believed to have died in a fire forty years before–in order to continue the experiments of Dr. Frankenstein.”
