Coronavirus: Film Florida Releases 161 Recommendations

Film Florida has released detailed Coronavirus recommendations for filming to resume in the state.

Film Florida is a not-for-profit trade association and released on Thursday, April 30, the six-page document by the statewide film association features over 100 recommendations for a clean production sets. These recommendations include removing the director’s chairs, actors trailers, personalized mics, hairbrushes, and barriers for actors.

The guidelines also include recommendations for background extras, transportation, location, hair & makeup, wardrobe, casting, craft services, and video village.

Film Florida’s recommendations are the first safe-set guide in the United States. These suggestions also include the following:

  • Separating cast and crew in a hotel
  • Daily temperature readings
  • Frequent disinfection
  • Wearing gloves and masks
  • Limiting the number of crew to essential staff
  • Staggering lunch and call times
  • No self serve buffets and only boxed meals
  • Avoiding make-up touch-ups for actors
  • Limiting extras
  • Dividing backstage spaces into sections with production teams working in isolation
  • Separating departments into pods
  • Only one department working at a time
  • Eliminate Directors chairs for plastic chairs
  • Limit the number of takes
  • A temporary clear barrier between actors
  • Larger tents with portable A/C instead of trailers
  • Eliminate “open calls”
  • During auditions, actors can wear gloves, and face shields or maintain social distancing
  • Limit the number of passengers in a van to 2 people at a time
  • Use gloves and masks when looking through stores and rental homes
  • Disinfect all props including jewelry and glasses between use
  • Face shield was worn by make-up artists and hairstylist
  • Disposable make-up kits
  • Assigned brushes and combs to actors
  • Label mics to each actor
  • Use boom-audio when possible
  • One individual to put up and remove production signs
  • Discarding all hard copy scripts/sides after each reading

This news comes after the Florida Governor announced the state will start lifting stay-at-home orders on Monday, May 4th. Florida officials say they will focus on film and TV production to help boost the state’s economy.

At this time, these are only recommendations and “Guilds, Unions, Production Companies, and Studios may also have regulations.” Film Florida’s recommendations could become the official guidelines for all TV shows and movies.

Despite these new recommendations, Hollywood may not restart production any time soon due to concerns from health officials.

In relevant news, Hollywood is getting hit hard by the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak with filming not set to resume until 2021.

Most studio productions have shut down indefinitely and others are figuring out ways to reopen their facilities.

Despite the health crisis, studio executives are looking into ways to safely resume production. According to Varietystudios and production companies are researching how to accomplish a safe and secure production facility to resume filming movies later this year.
