Birth of a Nation director Nate Parker was bashed for marrying a white woman
Nate Parker’s The Birth of A Nation, the drama about a slave revolt that became the sensation of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, has won the festival’s audience and one of the biggest prizes of the year. In fact, when The Birth of a Nation premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, it won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award and was picked up by Fox Searchlight for a record $17.5 million.
The movie, which centers around the real-life rebellion led by Nat Turner, debuted to standing ovations at Sundance only days after the Motion Picture Academy changed their rules in response to the #OscarsSoWhite backlash.
However, many users on Twitter are upset with Nate Parker for having a white wife.
According to reports, after E! News posted a picture of Nate Parker and his wife Sarah, to congratulate the couple on the birth of their fourth child on Friday. What should have been an amazing experience and time for Parker, quickly turned into a media frenzy and controversy.
Twitter users bashed Parker for marrying and having kids with a white woman.
