In Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame,” Jon Favreau and his brothers tried to persuade the Russo Brothers not to murder Iron Man.
“You can’t do this. It’s going to devastate people.”
The death of Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame was perhaps the most significant moment in the Infinity Saga, but it has now been revealed that the director of the original Iron Man from 2008, Jon Favreau, attempted to save Robert Downey Jr.’s character from his fatal fate in the massive ensemble blockbuster. In the most recent episode of Vanity Fair’s YouTube series, Joe and Anthony Russo recently spoke about their latest Netflix film, The Gray Man, and Avengers: Endgame directors. Turning to Endgame, the brothers stated that Jon Favreau had tried to persuade them not to off Iron Man after the movie.

“Part of the pressure came from Jon Favreau, who called us up after he read the script and said to us, ‘Are you guys really going to kill Iron Man?'” Anthony said. “I remember pacing on the corner of a stage on the phone with Favreau trying to talk him off a ledge,” Joe chimed in. “Because he’s like, ‘You can’t do this. It’s going to devastate people, and you don’t want them, you know, walking out of the theater and into traffic.'”
However, the Russo Brothers “did it anyway.” With Chris Evans’ exit as Captain America, a new route for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future phases was established, including new superheroes such as Shang-Chi and the Eternals and Disney+ projects.
