In the story, Gomer cleverly conceals his hearing loss and manages to deceive army recruiters, securing his place in World War I. His character requires excellent vocal singing skills and a high level of physicality. The role calls for a talented artist who can embody the complexities of Gomer’s journey, capturing his vulnerability and resilience.

If you’re selected for the role of Gomer Jones, you will have the opportunity to perform at two prestigious venues:

Goodspeed Opera House: The performances at this historic venue are scheduled for September 19th to October 5th, 2023. The Goodspeed Opera House, located in East Haddam, Connecticut, is renowned for its commitment to producing high-quality musical theater.

Signature Theatre: Following the success at Goodspeed Opera House, the production will move to Signature Theatre, where performances are scheduled from January 9th to March 10th, 2024. Located in Arlington, Virginia, Signature Theatre is celebrated for its dedication to showcasing groundbreaking works of theater.

Seeking: Authentically hard of hearing, late deafened and partially deaf artists for the role of Gomer

GOMER JONES: He/Him, 20s-30s. Tenor. Welsh. Gomer is a naive, charming, and empathetic young man with a stubborn streak bordering on cockiness. He was bom hearing, but recently experienced hearing loss.

Gomer is able to fake his way past the army recruiters and into WW1 by hiding his recent hearing loss with clear speech and lipreading ability. This is a highly physical character with excellent vocal singing skills.

Signature Theatre Dates: January 9th, 2024-March 10th, 2024
