What Is BAD MONKEY?

BAD MONKEY is Apple TV+’s bold new dark comedy crime drama based on the 2013 bestselling novel by Carl Hiaasen. Developed by Bill Lawrence (creator of Ted Lasso and Scrubs), this quirky yet gritty series is loaded with mystery, humor, and chaos—all set in the steamy backdrop of South Florida and the Bahamas.

Premiering on August 14, 2024, BAD MONKEY quickly gained traction with audiences and critics alike, blending a noir detective narrative with laugh-out-loud absurdity and unexpected twists.

The Plot: Murder, Mayhem & A Monkey

Former Miami police detective Andrew Yancy (played by Vince Vaughn) has been demoted to restaurant inspector in the Florida Keys—until a severed human arm is found by a tourist. Yancy suspects foul play and sets off on a wild investigation that takes him deep into corruption, voodoo, Medicare scams, resort fraud, and a love affair with a medical examiner.

Oh, and yes—there’s an actual bad monkey involved.

Official Synopsis:

“Andrew Yancy has a human arm in his freezer. He suspects murder, and solving it might just get him reinstated. But first, he’ll have to navigate a trail of wildly unpredictable characters, including a voodoo priestess known as the Dragon Queen, greedy real-estate tycoons, a fugitive lover, and a mysterious monkey.”
