Georgia's Film Incentives are still working as another movie is headed to the Peach State.
A movie about famous landscape artists called the Florida Highwaymen will film in Georgia instead of Florida all thanks to Georgia's film tax incentives, according to BizJournals.com.
According to report, The Unknowns: Talent is Colorblind, which will center around a group of 26 men who overcame the challenge of being black artists during the 1950s and 1960s, will be set in Fort Pierce, Florida but filmed in Savannah, Georgia. The Unknowns: Talent is Colorblind will feature Whoopi Goldberg and Sam Rockwell.
According to Walter T. Shaw, the movie's producer, the movie will take advantage of Georgia and the city of Savannah's Tax incentives. According to TCPalm, the movie can get back up to 40% in tax credits of its reported $8 million budget which is no competition in comparison to Florida's 20% transferable tax credit that ran out nearly two years ago.
“This production demonstrates another example of a production business choosing to film scenes that are not set in Florida in one of our neighboring states,” said Michelle Hillery of Film Florida in a statement provided to Shaw. “In the absence of a state-supported financial program, Florida will continue to lose hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in local spending. If a new film, television and digital media industry program is not funded this year, a once thriving business that has been cultivated in Florida for more than 100 years will severely deteriorate as we watch a quick exodus of high paying jobs and companies move to competing states.”
This is not the first time Florida lost a production to Georgia's tax credits. Gifted starring Chris Evans was supposed to film in Florida along with Live By Night starring Ben Affleck.
