Matthew McConaughey passed on the chance to star in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
On Wednesday it was learned Pom Klementieff has been cast in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in a mysterious role, and now it’s learned Marvel and James Gunn wanted Matthew McConaughey to play the movie’s villain.
According to Variety, “”Marvel and Gunn wanted Matthew McConaughey to play the villain in the superhero sequel, but the actor recently passed, leaving the search for that part still in progress. Sources say that decision should be made in the coming weeks, as production is expected to begin in early 2016.”
It is interesting to point out that McConaughey mentioned he was given several scripts for a few different Marvel and DC comics movies.
Any guesses who the villain could be?
The first Guardians of the Galaxy featured Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana and Vin Diesel. It would later become a box office hit making nearly $775 million dollars worldwide. The release of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017. Details surrounding the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie have not been revealed.
