Now is the time to say goodbye to ABC’s hit TV series Scandal.
According to reports, the network is expected to announce next week that Shonda Rhimes drama starring Kerry Washington will end with its previously announced seventh season. Rhimes has been vocal about the uncertain future of the show considering the country’s current political climate. In a recent interview, Rimes explained that before Donald Trump’s election she knew how to show what aunt but considering how the election turned out she is not sure and no longer has a final destination for the series.
The news of the end of Scandal is heartbreaking considering the show is averaging 2.7 among the key demographic of 18 to 49-year-olds and bringing in 8.9 million total viewers. That is nearly 300% higher number of viewers than the recently canceled Sleepy Hollow, which airs on Fox.
It is important to note that writers had to scrap a planned storyline that featured Russian hacking the presidential election when reality struck too close to home for the ABC’s political thriller.
Sources close to Rhimes claim that the show was always can and after seven seasons arguing that there’s only so much of the show you can actually tell.
