Everything We Know About ‘The Young Wife’ Netflix Movie
The Young Wife is one of the Netflix-Higher Ground Productions’ forthcoming productions, and it will be produced in collaboration with Michelle Obama’s production company. Here’s what we know so far about the next Netflix family drama film, which is now filming.
The film was first unveiled by Netflix in February 2021 along with seven other projects from Higher Ground Productions. The company has produced several films already available on the service, including Ada Twist, Scientist, Crip Camp, American Factory, and Fatherhood. Some of their other planned works include Rustin due to premiere in 2022, Tenzing from Jennifer Peedom and Melissa Etheridge, and an untitled project from Shonda Rhimes.
Here’s what was included in that initial announcement:
“The Young Wife is a feature film by writer and director Tayarisha Poe (Selah and the Spades). It follows Celestina, 29, on the day of her first wedding. Or not a wedding, exactly, but a party. A party where there’s movement, and Celestina is out of sync. The guests flood in; a storm approaches.”
Tayarisha Poe is in charge of both the script and directing.
Poe has worked on numerous television shows, including two-word horror stories for The CW (which is available on Netflix in the United States) and directing episodes of The Twilight Zone and FX’s Dave.
Selah, with her signature diamond-encrusted hair clip, has become a household name in the last year thanks to their Amazon Prime Video film release. It’s also set to appear on television next year as a TV series.
When will The Young Wife be in production for Netflix?
According to one source, production has already begun on February 28th and will continue until March 29th, 2022.
According to What’s On Netflix, the program is filming in the city of Darien in Georgia.
On March 1st, Tayarisha Poe noted on Twitter that she had a “amazing day one,” which would suggest the first day of filming but without stating it.
The movie is reportedly filming in Georgia which is confirmed by the Georgia “currently filming” list which now includes The Young Wife. It’s worth noting that the site lists the distributor as “indie” however and not Netflix.
Who is in the cast for The Young Wife on Netflix?
No casting has been announced for The Young Wife as of yet.
What can we expect from the plot of The Young Wife?
The official synopsis from Higher Ground Productions and Netflix describes the movie as:
“Celestina, a young woman on the brink of her first wedding, finds herself swaying in the opposite direction. As guests arrive for the celebration, an impending storm brews and she can’t seem to catch her balance.”
This would suggest that the movie will focus on the preparations and events of the wedding day itself. However, with Poe at the helm, there will likely be more to the story than just a straightforward wedding drama.
