Rising star Paul Mescal is reportedly amid talks to join Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated ‘Gladiator’ sequel, with sources confirming that negotiations have been ongoing.
As early as 2018, plans for a second film installment were already in motion.

Hollywood insiders speculate that Paul Mescal of Normal People is the top choice to lead Ridley Scott’s much-anticipated Gladiator sequel.
Reports have circulated that the talented 26-year-old actor is currently in talks to portray Lucius, the grown son of Connie Nielsen’s Lucilla and nephew to Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus. Deadline reports that Maximus (Russell Crowe) fulfills his vow of revenge by saving Lucius and Lucilla from certain death. “left a strong impression on the young Lucius,” while the full story remains veiled in mystery.
In November, after they completed the final draft of the film, Mescal purportedly became one of the first cast members to be invited in for a meeting with Scott. Although other actors have been contacted as well since then., “Insiders say it seemed clear to all involved that Mescal clearly was Scott’s top choice following a fantastic meeting between the two.”
Joining Scott in the sequel are Janty Yates, costume designer, and Arthur Max, production designer. Michael Pruss of Scott Free and Doug Wick with Lucy Fisher from Red Wagon Entertainment will serve as producers along with Scott. Davie Scarpa wrote the script.
