300: Rise of an Empire Destroys the Box-Office Competition

Date:

300: Rise of an Empire destroys the competition with 45 million dollar debut.

300: Rise of an Empire had a lot of competition including family friendly movies such as “Mr. Peabody & Sherman”, and “The Grand Budapest Hotel”.

Warner Bros. and Legendary‘s 3D sequel 300: Rise of an Empire did extremely well in the box office. However, the sequel was unable to beat their record-breaking debut on the first 300 on the same weekend in 2007, but considering the industry changes and a new director the movie did considerably well.

Interesting to note, Rise of an Empire appeared more to females than the first feature film and according to The Hollywood Reporter, a large majority of the audience was between 24 and 34.

Directed by Noam Murro, 300: Rise of an Empire starrs Sullivan Stapleton and Eva Green and is set during the second Persian invasion of Greece. Stapleton who actually suffered a concussion on set of Rise of an Empire, plays a Greek general.

The Dreamworks Animation and 20th Century Fox animation comedy, Mr. Peabody & Sherman came in No. 2. The time-travel adventure scored highly with critics but, many argue that the popularity of The Lego Movie, hampered the number of viewers.
