Chris Pratt reveals that he gains weight to play comedic roles because it makes him funnier. However, to last in Hollywood he lost over 100 pounds to stay relevant and healthy.
Chris Pratt has become one of Hollywood’s biggest actors since last summer’s blockbuster hit movie, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ rocked the box office.
This summer Chris Pratt leads in the hugely anticipated Jurassic World, and his good looks have earned him millions of followers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. But, in a new interview with Men’s Health magazine, the 35-year old actor has revealed how he was forced to take action after he weighed in at 300lbs just two years ago.
The actor hit 300lbs at his heaviest but dropped the weight to star in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. The actor revealed he toned up to play a baseball player in 2011’s ‘Moneyball’, before shooting back up in weight for 2013 movie ‘Delivery Man’ – that’s when he hit 300lbs.
It was his success in ‘Parks and Recreation’ though, with producers expanding Andy’s character to a recurring role thanks to Chris’ popularity, that convinced the actor that he had to gain weight.
‘I saw myself in an episode,’ Pratt, who admits he used to devour three or four cheeseburgers at every table read, told Men’s Health, ‘and in the matter of two moments very close together, I thought, “Oh my God, I’m getting fat.” And then almost immediately I did something else and I thought, “Holy crap, I’ve never seen myself funnier.” And I put the two together.’
‘I’d gone back and forth, lost weight for Moneyball, got fat again, then trimmed down for Zero Dark Thirty, then gained it all back again for Andy. That’s when I saw Zero Dark Thirty and right after walking out I was like: “I’m going to get in shape and I’m never going to be fat again,”‘ he explains.
‘I was impotent, fatigued, emotionally depressed. I had real health issues that were affecting me in a major way. It’s bad for your heart, your skin, your system, your spirit,’ he adds.
Chris Pratt lost weight with dedicated workouts and a drastic change in his diet, which he admits wasn’t easy. Chris Pratt is currently working with Denzel Washington in the ‘Magnificent Seven’ remake which is currently seeking extras and stand-ins.
