Margot Robbie Says Wuthering Heights Set Her Up for Success

Key Takeaways

  • Margot Robbie praises Wuthering Heights for its standout screenplay and creative vision
  • The film is directed by Emerald Fennell and co-stars Jacob Elordi
  • Robbie highlights strong on-set chemistry and trust during emotionally intense scenes
  • The project reimagines Emily Brontë’s classic novel for a modern audience

Margot Robbie says she felt “set up for success” while working on Wuthering Heights, the highly anticipated film directed by Emerald Fennell.

The 35-year-old actress stars opposite Jacob Elordi in the new adaptation inspired by Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel. While the story remains rooted in the original material, the film takes a looser, more stylized approach — something Robbie says made the experience especially rewarding.

Margot Robbie Praises the Wuthering Heights Screenplay

Speaking to Extra, Robbie credited the film’s strong foundation for creating an environment where the cast could thrive.

“We were so set up for success, to be honest,” Robbie said.
“We had the most amazing screenplay, the most incredible designers, and Emerald, who is so attuned to what makes people gasp.”

She highlighted how every creative element — from costumes to set design — worked together seamlessly.

According to Robbie, the production team didn’t just create a visually striking film; they built a space where actors could fully commit to their performances.

“We were given all the ingredients to do something amazing,” she added. “All we really needed to do was bring our best.”

On-Screen Chemistry With Jacob Elordi

Robbie also spoke openly about working with Jacob Elordi, particularly during the film’s more intimate and emotionally charged scenes.

She described a strong sense of trust between them, which allowed for creative freedom without hesitation.

“I never felt like I needed to be careful with him,” Robbie shared.
“We quickly got to a place where it was like, ‘Try anything, do anything.’”

That comfort, she explained, made it easier to fully explore the complicated relationship between Cathy and Heathcliff — characters known for their passion, volatility, and emotional extremes.

Embracing the Emotional Intensity of Wuthering Heights

Earlier this year, Robbie told People magazine that she enjoyed the emotional demands of the role, even when it pushed her to extremes.

“The movie kind of demands a lot of all of us,” she said.

Her character, she noted, is in a near-constant state of emotional flux.

“My character essentially cries in every single scene,” Robbie said.
“But it was a joy. I loved playing someone who swings from one wild emotion to another in an instant.”

Rather than requiring special preparation for romantic or dramatic moments, Robbie said every scene carried the same level of intensity.

A Modern Take on a Classic Story

With Emerald Fennell at the helm, Wuthering Heights is shaping up to be a bold reinterpretation of a literary classic. The combination of a reimagined screenplay, detailed production design, and committed performances has already sparked buzz across the entertainment industry.

As anticipation builds, Robbie’s comments offer a glimpse into why this adaptation stands out — not just as a retelling, but as a carefully crafted cinematic experience driven by collaboration, trust, and creative ambition.
