ICF is seeking a Senior/Lead Writer/Editor to work on a CDC project. The selected candidate will work across several contract tasks to provide writing/editing leadership for a team of writer/editors across reports, meetings, conferences, etc. The successful candidate will be a highly experienced Writer/Editor who will lead the development, writing, editing, and consultation on the design of content for use in deliverables. As an experienced, motivated Senior/Lead Writer/Editor, you will:
- Employing the principles of plain language, write and edit materials on a variety of complementary and integrative health-related topics (public health-focused).
- Function as Senior SME for writing, grammar, and writing mechanics across CDC, partners, and fellow contractor team members on deliverables.
- Assist contract leadership at ICF and partner in management of day-to-day team operations and support related to writing/editing across project deliverables.
- Assist in the coordination and tracking of tasks across the team or writer/editors and backups.
- Create meeting summaries for CDC branch or division-level meetings.
- Provide review and final quality checks as needed for materials developed and submitted to the team.
- Collaborate with contract leadership and fellow contractors to improve documentation processes and best practices.
- Have a “work until it’s good” mindset. We support and encourage work/life balance, but at the end of the day we must deliver a remarkable product.
- Multitask. We are a team with lots of projects and this position will work with almost all of the contract task activities. You will have to know when to dive deep into the work and when to surface for everything else.
Basic Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience developing, reviewing, and editing a variety of work products.
Additional Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, communications, or related field. Superlative writing skills and mastery of English grammar and syntax.
- Demonstrated intermediate-level proficiency in Microsoft Office, including MS Office 365 and familiarity with Teams/Zoom, to produce consistent and uniform work products.
- Excellent verbal, oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills, including experience with developing and delivering presentations, writing, and leading weekly meetings with fellow Writer/Editor team members and contract leadership.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including tracking of several drafts across tasks, meetings, etc.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to multi-task in an energized environment and meet deadlines.
- Experience working successfully in a team environment.
- Knowledge of plain language writing principles.
- Experience interacting with government clients.
Preferred Skills:
- Master’s Degree in English, Communications, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience developing, reviewing, and editing a variety of work products, including items written by 5-10 team members or documents with multiple authors.
- Experience leading a group of contractors serving as editors. Lead Writer/Editor activities would include compiling and editing documents from multiple CDC sources into a single document.
- Experience developing reports, meeting materials (agendas, meeting notifications for attendees),and meeting summaries on federal contracts, preferably CDC.
- Knowledge of complementary and integrative public health-related topics.
- Knowledge/familiarity of Section 508 requirements.
- Ability to follow style and branding guidelines.
- Ability and willingness to learn new computer software applications as necessary.

This role is ideal for a detail‑driven professional who excels in fast‑paced environments and can balance editorial rigor with operational coordination. As a trusted advisor and resource, the Senior Technical Editor and Action Officer will support decision-making, streamline workflows, and ensure the successful execution of high-priority initiatives.
This role requires on-site work in Arlington, VA.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Editing & Communications
- Edit, standardize, and quality‑check memos, reports, briefing materials, talking points, and executive correspondence.
- Ensure all written products comply with agency style guides, formatting requirements, and Plain Language standards.
- Strengthen narrative flow, clarity, and logical structure across diverse document types.
- Maintain and refine templates, editorial checklists, style guidance, and writing standards.
Task Management & Tracking

The Senior Technical Editor and Content Strategist will develop, edit, and evaluate cybersecurity-focused content for a government organization. This role requires a seasoned editor with cybersecurity familiarity who can assess technical accuracy, strategic alignment, and overall effectiveness of cybersecurity-related documentation. Key Responsibilities:
