A Fresh Spin on an Old Tale

After a long wait and much expectation, the new take on “The Crow” has finally landed on the big screen, thanks to Lionsgate. We’ve been discussing this project for quite some time and our collective curiosity is finally satisfied. To say we were anxious would be putting it mildly!

Directed by Rupert Sanders of “Snow White and the Huntsman” fame, this version isn’t labeling itself as a remake. Instead, it’s being hailed as a new adaptation of the comic book series originally created by James O’Barr. The screenplay was penned by Oscar-nominated writer Zach Baylin, known for his magnificent work on “King Richard”.

A Familiar Story with New Faces

Our familiar tale of soulmates Eric, played by the charismatic Bill Skarsgard of “Boy Kills World”, and Shelly, played by the talented singer FKA twigs. They find themselves brutally slain as Shelly’s murky past catches up with them. Seizing a chance to protect his true love, Eric embarks on a fearless mission to vindicate the pair, journeying between the realms of the living and the deceased.

Enhancing the cast is Danny Huston from “Yellowstone” as the chief antagonist. Other stars include David Bowles from “Brothers”, Isabella Wei of “1899”, Laura Birn from “A Walk Among the Tombstones”, Sami Bouajila, famous for “The Bouncer”, and Jordan Bolger from “Peaky Blinders”.

A Labor of Love

This new adaptation of “The Crow” comes over two decades after the original film, which was released in 1994. The journey to the big screen this time wasn’t smooth sailing. From being first announced in 2008, it waded through a host of challenges, including changing screenwriters, discarded scripts, and even studio bankruptcies.

Several celebrated directors like Stephen Norrington, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Corin Hardy, and Francisco Javier Gutiérrez worked on the project. Plenty of heavyweight actors, including Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg, Tom Hiddleston, Luke Evans, Jason Momoa, and Jack Huston, contemplated taking up the lead role.

Over to You

We’ve shared our thoughts (6/10 isn’t a bad score), and now we are curious to hear yours. What did you think about this new adaptation of “The Crow”? Don’t shy away from letting us know. Drop a comment and get the conversation flowing because your opinion matters!

In a nutshell, hats off to Lionsgate for steady persistence and resilience in bringing this new adaptation to light. It has been a tumultuous journey, and now, we eagerly await your reviews. After all, the continued success of any movie lies in the hands of its viewers. So, let your opinions fly, just like our beloved Crow!
