The data reveals that more than half of internet users in the UK, USA, Australia, and Canada watch international content frequently. Specifically, 54% of these users engage with foreign-language shows “very often” or “sometimes”—a notable increase from 43% at the beginning of 2020. Conversely, the 45–64 age group has been slower to adapt, with only 41% reporting regular international media consumption. However, this older demographic is catching up fast, thanks in part to their increasing familiarity with streaming platforms, which have become more accessible and user-friendly for all age groups.

South Korean content, in particular, has carved out a significant niche in these markets. Shows and films from South Korea have experienced a 35% increase in frequent viewership. Hits like “Squid Game” and the Oscar-winning “Parasite” have not only captivated audiences but also sparked a broader interest in South Korea’s cultural exports. The intrigue and innovation found in these productions have paved the way for a deeper appreciation of the storytelling styles that differ markedly from Western norms.
