Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in the upcoming feature film Why Don’t You Love Me?, an adaptation of the graphic novel by Paul B. Rainey. A24 has acquired the rights to Rainey’s sci-fi comedy, which tells the story of an unhappily married couple navigating their personal and professional struggles. As they delve deeper into their discontent, they uncover the startling truth that their reality is not what it seems, suggesting the existence of alternative realities. The novel was released in 2023 by publisher Drawn & Quarterly.
Robert Funke, known for creating the series On Becoming a God in Central Florida, will pen the screenplay. Lawrence will also serve as a producer alongside Justine Ciarrocchi for Excellent Cadaver, the production company behind the Sony comedy No Hard Feelings. Lawrence and A24 recently collaborated on a murder mystery based on the Real Housewives reality franchise for Apple and the Oscar-nominated drama Causeway, in which Lawrence portrayed a military veteran adjusting to civilian life. Lawrence has received four Academy Award nominations, winning Best Actress for her role in Silver Linings Playbook in 2013.
The production team for Why Don’t You Love Me? includes Midsommar filmmaker Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, and Emily Hildner of Square Peg, with Rainey serving as an executive producer.
