How Georgia’s Film Industry is Helping Local Small Business Owners

Date:

Georgia’s film industry is a multi-billion dollar industry.

But, it may be even larger than analysts have reported. According to a recent report by the GA Studio Alliance, Georgia businesses have felt the industry’s presence.

For example, a mental health therapy practice in McDonough’s town square saw an increase in foot traffic during the filming of William H. Macy’s movie Krystal. As a result, the mental health facility was able to obtain new patients and new business.

“Since we’re on the square, we keep our services discreet, so people feel comfortable coming to us,” says Yaunte Dvine, practice administrator of Dvine System GA. “With more foot traffic during filming, we were able to spread information about our services and got new patients out of it.”

Another industry impacted by Georgia’s booming film industry is the restaurant business. A family-owned restaurant, Holy Smoke BBQ & More, also doubled sales during the filming of Krystal. Saying, “It turned out to be a blessing,” adding that the restaurant benefited from the crowds hoping to catch a glimpse of filming and even fed some of the production staff. “We want to thank the Georgia filming industry for selecting small towns like McDonough for their locations,” Michele White, the business owner of the restaurant said. “Small mom and pop businesses can actually benefit from the crowds who stop by to see what’s going on,” White added.
