Calling all artists! Join us for an in-person open call in NYC or submit to our virtual open call for the second national tour of TINA – The Tina Turner Musical, hitting the road across North America in fall 2024. We are actively seeking talented actors for the roles of TINA TURNER, IKE TURNER, ZELMA BULLOCK, RICHARD BULLOCK, GRAN GEORGEANNA, and YOUNG ANNA MAE.

Travel and housing will be provided, along with full health insurance coverage while on tour.

Our in-person open call will be held on June 28th in New York, NY, with sign-in at 9 am. Virtual open call submissions are due by 11 pm ET on the same day. Please advise to either attend the in-person call or submit to the virtual call, but not both.

Seeking:

[TINA TURNER] Female identifying character, 30s, Black. The “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll”, she rose to prominence as the lead singer of the husband-wife duo Ike & Tina Turner before launching a successful career as a solo performer. The piece spans through Tina’s life and focuses on Tina’s introduction into the music industry with Ike Turner and the years of physical abuse she endured during her marriage to Ike, and how she transformed her life and rebuilt her career after divorcing him. Seeking a charismatic leading actor with star quality, an excellent and versatile singing voice in the style of Tina Turner, with wide range and huge amounts of vocal stamina. Must be able to move very well. PRINCIPAL.

[IKE TURNER/RONNIE TURNER] Male identifying character, early 30s. Black. American musician, bandleader, songwriter, record producer, talent scout, and Tina Turner’s first husband. Charismatic, a showman, but also has a dangerous, vicious streak. Manipulative. Often high on drugs; prone to sudden bouts of violence. Will also play: RONNIE: Tina and Ike’s only son. Seeking a leading actor with a solid baritone singing voice. PRINCIPAL.

[ZELMA BULLOCK] Female identifying character, 40s-50s, Black. Tina’s mother. Finds it difficult to be maternal. Had an abusive relationship with Tina’s father. Tough, detached, cruel. Develops a close relationship with Ike. Resents Tina and had an estranged relationship with her. Seeking a leading actor with a powerful alto singing voice. PRINCIPAL. 

[RICHARD BULLOCK] Male identifying character, late 30s-early 40s. Black. Anna Mae’s (Tina’s) Father and Zelma’s husband. A Preacher. Full of passion, fire and spirit. Has a violent, fiery relationship with Zelma and inflicts physical abuse. Seeking a strong actor with a powerful tenor singing voice, and excellent movement skills. FEATURED ENSEMBLE. 

[GRAN GEORGEANNA] Female identifying character, 60s, Black. Tina’s Grandmother. She’s more Tina’s mother than Zelma has ever been. Supportive and ever present. A little slower physically but still very sharp. Seeking a strong character actor with a resonant alto singing voice. PRINCIPAL.

[ANNA MAE BULLOCK/YOUNG CRAIG TURNER] Female identifying character, 9-11 years old, Black. Young Tina Turner. Must have a big, powerful belt in her vocal arsenal, along with good acting skills. Will also play: YOUNG CRAIG: Tina’s youngest son. PRINCIPAL.

Casting Call: Tim – Physically Disabled Child Actor for “A Christmas Carol”

Job Description:

Geva Theatre is casting for the role of Tim, a physically disabled child for an exciting new adaptation of A Christmas Carol. We are seeking a child actor who is perceptive and appears older than their years to play this iconic role. Tim is a central character who holds Scrooge’s fate in his hands, and this production will reimagine the character’s impact on the story.

Casting for LA-Based Actors – Developmental Reading of New Pop Musical The Life of Death

Job Description:

We are casting LA-based actors for a developmental reading of The Life of Death, a new pop musical. The story follows the Grim Reaper’s daughter, who faces a profound dilemma between stepping into her father’s role as the next “Death” and her secret longing to be fully alive. This comedic musical requires strong performers with powerful pop vocal abilities to help bring the story to life in this staged reading.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform in a developmental reading of a new musical, embodying dynamic characters with strong emotional depth.
  • Deliver powerful vocal performances of pop songs and contribute to the overall musical experience.
  • Collaborate with the director, music director, and creative team to help develop the characters and musical material for the production.
  • Participate in rehearsals and the reading process, providing input and feedback on the character’s development.

Requirements:

Casting Call: Lead Role of Ana for “Real Women Have Curves: The Musical”

Job Description:
We are conducting a national casting search for the lead role of Ana in the upcoming musical adaptation of Real Women Have Curves, based on the beloved play and inspired by the HBO film. This production, directed and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo, with music and lyrics by Joy Huerta and Benjamin Velez, is seeking a versatile actress to portray Ana, a passionate young woman with big dreams and a curvy, unapologetic presence.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Portray Ana, a 16-25-year-old Mexican/Latina, who is bilingual (English and some Spanish), a budding activist, and the first U.S. citizen in her family.
  • Deliver a strong, dynamic performance with a focus on Ana’s passionate, impulsive, and righteous nature, exploring her complex relationship with her family and her personal identity.
  • Perform in various musical numbers, showcasing vocal range and acting abilities in a dynamic stage setting.

Requirements:

  • Female-identifying actor, aged 16-25, of Mexican/Latina descent.
  • Bilingual with proficiency in both English and some Spanish.
  • Strong acting skills to portray Ana’s big-hearted, smart, and sometimes righteous personality.
  • Strong singing ability with versatility: alto/mezzo with a wide vocal range, strong pop sensibility, and a solid rhythm. Should possess a strong pop belt but not musical theater lead-level power.
  • Comfortable with portraying a curvy body type and confident in embracing the role’s physical and emotional depth.

Casting for Lead Role of Bob Newby in “Stranger Things: The First Shadow”

Job Description: Jim Carnahan Casting is seeking a talented male actor to portray the character of Bob Newby in the upcoming live stage production “Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” set to debut on Broadway in 2025. This is a lead role that requires an actor capable of bringing depth, humor, and a sense of authenticity to a beloved character from the Stranger Things universe.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Portray Bob Newby, a 17-18-year-old male, in a live stage production.
  • Deliver a performance that captures Bob’s essence as a smart, sheltered teenager with a natural earnestness and naivety, especially around girls.

  • Must be available for the entire rehearsal and performance schedule, leading up to the Broadway debut in 2025.
  • Candidates should submit a recent photo or headshot, a resume (if available), and their location.
