Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled actor to portray Savita, a lead role in SŪNNA (“Listen” in Hindi), an award-winning short film about love, resilience, and transformation. Savita is a strong and independent musician who faces profound challenges as she helps her daughter rediscover herself after a life-changing event.

This project is the recipient of the CAPE Julia S. Gouw & Janet Yang 2024 Grant.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Portray Savita, a deeply loving yet vulnerable mother determined to support her daughter’s journey.
  • Perform sitar and vocal pieces showcasing Indian musical traditions.
  • Deliver emotionally compelling performances that convey Savita’s strength, determination, and tender vulnerability.

Requirements:

  • Female, 40s, South Asian.
  • Proficiency in sitar and singing.
  • Fluency in Hindi or Gujarati.
  • Strong ability to convey complex emotional depth.
  • Open to both union and non-union talent.
  • Must be able to work as a Los Angeles local. Talent outside of LA must arrange their own travel and accommodations if cast.

Compensation:

  • SAG Modified Low Budget Agreement.

Job Description:

We are seeking a talented young actor to portray Lakshmi, the lead role in SŪNNA (“Listen” in Hindi), an award-winning short film about resilience and self-discovery. The film follows Lakshmi, a young Indian singer and piano player, who embarks on a transformative journey after unexpectedly losing her hearing.

This project is the recipient of the CAPE Julia S. Gouw & Janet Yang 2024 Grant.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Portray the character of Lakshmi, a sensitive yet emotionally mature girl navigating the challenges of losing her hearing.
  • Perform piano pieces and sing both Indian raags and Western pop songs.
  • Convey a range of emotions, from defeat and curiosity to resilience and self-discovery.

Requirements:

  • Female, 9-14 years old, South Asian.
  • Strong piano and singing skills (Indian raags and Western pop).
  • Must demonstrate emotional depth and versatility in acting.
  • Open to both union and non-union talent.
  • Must be able to work as a Los Angeles local. Talent outside of LA must provide their own travel and accommodations if cast.
