‘Concussion’ movie flops in the box office.
Will Smith is known for selling out movie theaters. In fact, I Am Legend was Smith’s biggest movie ever earning over $77 million in the box office opening weekend. And when it was announced that Will Smith will play a the groundbreaking physician Dr. Bennet Omalu, many assumed Smith was going to break new records and new grounds.
But, Will Smith’s latest movie, Concussion is the Fresh Prince’s second worst movie ever.
According to Box Office Mojo, Concussion made only $11 million at the box office this weekend on a budget of $35 million. The NFL scandal movie is currently ranked sixth after opening in 2,841 movie theaters and earning only $3,872 per theater on average.
Concussion made even less money than the Legend of Baggar Vance which only made $11,516,712 in even fewer movie theaters.

Concussion centered around an accomplished pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu who uncovers the truth about brain damage in football players who suffer repeated concussions in the course of normal play. The movie featured Will Smith, Alec Baldwin, and Albert Brooks.
Critics were not that impressed. Concussion received mixed reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a rating of 60%, based on 100 reviews, with an average rating of 6.1/10. The site’s consensus reads, “Concussion lands a solid, well-acted hit on its impressively timely subject matter, even if its traditional sports drama structure is a little too safe to deserve a full-on dance in the end zone.”
This begs the question, is Will Smith no longer the A-list actor known to pull in big box office numbers?
Outside of MIB 3, Smith’s last four movies were box office flops. For example, Focus only made $18 million, After Earth made only $27 million and the 2008 movie Seven Pounds made $14 million.
If this is true, Smith is not alone. Johnny Depp is currently listed as one Hollywood’s most overpaid actor alongside Denzel Washington, illustrating the shift in a new list of Hollywood A-listers.
