Open Casting Call: “Wolf Play” – Portland Theater Festival 2024

Project Description:

“Wolf Play” is an evocative and compelling production that will be part of the Portland Theater Festival 2024. We are seeking talented actors for key roles in this thought-provoking play. The story navigates themes of identity, family, and acceptance, requiring performers who can bring depth and authenticity to their characters.

Casting Roles:

  1. Ash:

    • Description: Late 20s-30s, BIPOC, assigned female at birth/non-binary. A highly skilled southpaw boxer coming to terms with the sudden adoption of a child by her wife, Robin. Tough exterior but sweet and nurturing on the inside. Strong, direct, no BS.
    • Requirements: Actor should be excellent with movement; boxing experience is a plus.
  2. Robin:

    • Description: 30s-40s, female, any ethnicity. Ash’s wife. She adopts a re-homed child from the internet hoping he will fulfill her desire to have a family. Queer. Maternal. Nurturing. Organized. Very emotional.
    • Requirements: Strong emotional range and ability to portray a nurturing, maternal figure.
  3. Ryan:

    • Description: 20s-30s, male, any ethnicity. Robin’s younger brother. Straight. Athletic. Very “male.” Charming. Impulsive. Athletic.
    • Requirements: Actor should be comfortable with boxing.
  4. Peter:

    • Description: 30s-40s, male, any ethnicity. Straight dude on the conservative spectrum. Hetero energy. A little pathetic but funny. Fears the non-traditional.
    • Requirements: Ability to portray a conservative character with comedic undertones.

Compensation:

  • $1,500 stipend or “Special Appearance” AEA rate
  • Local hires preferred. Limited housing available for out-of-town actors.

Casting Call: Actor for the Role of Victor in “Dry Land”

Job Details: The Portland Theater Festival is seeking talent for its upcoming production of “Dry Land,” a compelling drama written by Ruby Rae Spiegel. The play will be directed by Taylor Reynolds and is set to be a highlight of the Festival’s 2024 summer season, which features a lineup of live, professional theater.

Role Casting For: Victor: A male character, aged 20. Victor lives somewhat in his own world, characterized by a distinct style that includes skinny pants, old shirts, and sneakers that seem slightly out of sync with the rest of his outfit.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the director, cast, and crew to bring the character of Victor to life.
  • Attend all rehearsals and perform during all scheduled performances as part of the festival.
  • Participate in promotional events and media interviews as required.
  • Maintain a high level of performance consistency and professionalism throughout the run.

Requirements:

  • Must be available for rehearsals starting approximately two months before opening night and for all performance dates.

Compensation:

  • A stipend of $1,500 or the equivalent “Special Appearance” rate for AEA members.

Casting Call: Actors for the Role of Reba in “DRY LAND”

  • Reba: Aged 17. Portrays the archetypal perfect camp girl, spirited and sociable, without the extremities of a Valley Girl stereotype. Reba is characterized by her casual meanness, which is more playful than harmful, centered around her self-focused nature rather than any deep-seated cruelty.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively under the direction of Taylor Reynolds to bring the character of Reba to life, maintaining the integrity of the playwright’s vision.
  • Participate in all scheduled rehearsals and commit to the performance schedule set by the festival.
  • Engage in promotional activities, including media interviews and public appearances, as required by the festival’s marketing team.

Requirements:

  • Actors should be 18+ but able to convincingly play a 17-year-old.
  • Strong stage presence and the ability to portray nuanced emotions.
  • Both AEA and non-union actors are encouraged to apply.
  • Local hires are preferred; however, limited housing options are available for actors residing outside the area.
  • Must be available for the entire duration of the festival rehearsals and performances.

Compensation:

  • Salary: $1,500 stipend or equivalent to the “Special Appearance” AEA rate, depending on union status.
