Stan Lee, the writer who created some of Marvel Comics’ most popular and iconic superheroes, has died.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, he passed away on Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He was 95-years-old.
Lee helped bring Marvel comics to become a pop-cultural phenomenon. Lee created characters such as the he Fantastic Four, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor and the X-Men. He also introduced readers to Doctor Strange and Spider-Man. Together, Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby combined many of these characters into Marvel’s first Avengers crossover series.
Recently, the retired comic book writer had found life as the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the widely popular world of film adaptations of his many comic book creations. From appearing in several small roles in every MCU movie to date to regularly promoting Disney movies, Lee’s connection to the characters and the fans who love them had only grown over time.
Unfortunately, his final years were plagued with controversy, including accusations of elder abuse made against his daughter and a restraining order against a former business partner when the money went missing. Many of these reports surfaced after Stan’s wife of 70 years, Joan Lee, passed in 2017.
