Birmingham, Alabama is opening a new film office in hopes of luring Hollywood producers to film their productions in the state’s largest city.
According to reports, Film Birmingham is now open for business after operating behind the scenes for more than a year. Film Birmingham plans on launching a website in order to target the film industry. However, instead of focusing on big-budget movies like Atlanta does, Birmingham will focus on recruiting small to midsize productions.
In order to fund the effort, Film Birmingham is seeking $100,000 to help support the initiative.
“We see this as an opportunity to attract more films to the city and continue to push Birmingham to the world stage while tapping into this industry,” Birmingham Mayor William Bell said in a statement to AL.com.
This news comes after actor Wesley Snipes visited Birmingham City Hall as part of an effort to recruit more film production to the city.
According to reports, Film Birmingham is also receiving funding from the Mike & Gillian Goodrich Foundation, the Alabama Power Foundation, the Hugh Kaul Foundation, the Robert R. Meyer Foundation and the Susan Mott Webb Charitable Trust.
