Tom Jules Samie

Biography Mandja-Tom Jules Samie is a dance artist, performer, choreographer, and educator. He trained at the École des Sables, Toubab Dialaw Senegal where he specialized in interpretation, choreography game and pedagogy. Prior to this, Mandja-Tom trained at the Alvin Ailey Senegal Senegal Academy in modern, classical and contemporary jazz, African traditional dances. He was a member of the Togolese dance company, Dagbénéva Togo, where he trained in various African dance techniques. His work is an experimental dialogue between traditional and Afrocontemporary dance, grounded in his understanding of dance as a social practice and an art form. Tom is currently taking part in the international tour of ‘The Rite of Spring’ with the Pina Bausch Foundation, Ecoles des Sables and Sadler’s Wells. Prior to this, he was a member of Nora Chipaumire’s company, where he took part in an international tour of the Nehanda opera project, and practice Nhaka technique. He has organized, led and participated in various workshops across Africa
