About:
Steven Gerard Jackson
A Dynamic Musician from New Orleans
Steven Gerard Jackson is a keyboardist, percussionist, music producer, and songwriter in the R&B, Funk, Soul, and Jazz genres, with one of the most dynamic sense of touch for performing, and recording in these styles. Steven was born and raised in New Orleans, LA, commonly know as the birthplace of jazz. He started playing the drums at the age of 14, and a year later, began playing the piano by ear. His professional music career didn’t began until several years later, when he was asked by a close associate to help produce and event which later would become one of the most successful open mic’ nights in New Orleans history. One Mic was produced every Sunday evening at Club Caribbean in New Orleans, and provided local artists with a comfortable venue in which to perform and be heard. One of the innovations Steven introduced to this event was incorporating a live band, and a professional D.J. into the show, which added to the overall appeal of the event. One of the artist who participated, Ms. Tee, was the first female artist signed to Cash Money Records-one of the most successful independent record companies of all time. She gained interest in Steven’s talents by performing at One Mic and later hired Steve Jackson as the Musical Director of her band, to perform shows with her throughout metropolitan New Orleans. This led to being booked to perform at one of the city’s most high profile events, The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in 2010. It was during this period that Steven Jackson realized his great potential, and decided to become a full-time professional musician. Later that year, he moved to Houston and enrolled in Houston Community College’s music program (Central Campus). Steven began studying piano and percussion in a variety of musical styles with notable instructors such as, Dr. Mary Carol Warwick, Professor Robert Hubley, and Professor Horace Alexander Young. While in Houston Steven recorded and performed solo and accompanying piano and played drums with a number of funk and jazz ensembles. In 2013, Steven was asked to go on tour with Ron Chandler as keyboardist for the group Cymbolton on the Gulf Coast Casino circuit, which includes Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama. Six months later, he was asked to perform and record as a keyboardist and percussionist with world-renowned jazz pianist Joe Sample, as part of an ensemble he was producing named R.A.D.S.: Crusaders II.0. This group was a modern day version of his former group “The Crusaders”. As of January 2015, Steven took another giant step towards fulfilling his ultimate goal of becoming a versatile, entrepreneurial musician in Los Angeles, California. He audition for and was accepted into one of the most newly innovative contemporary music programs in the country -Santa Fe University of Art and Design (Santa Fe, NM). There, his studies include classes specializing in live performance, recording, songwriting and music production. He truly is an original artist, and a budding and rising star, only time will tell how high and how bright this star will shine.
