About:
Nadine Hachach-Haram, BEM, is an award-winning health tech leader and practising NHS surgeon who founded surgical intelligence company Proximie in 2016. The idea came after more than a decade working in operating rooms, where she saw firsthand how manual and disconnected surgical care remained even as demands on hospitals grew, and how little of what actually happened during an operation, from decisions made under pressure to how devices and teams interacted, was ever captured or used to improve care afterwards.
That conviction set her on a mission to change how the world's operating rooms work.
Today Proximie is the surgical intelligence platform for the operating room (OR), an ambient AI layer that captures and structures surgical data from inside live operating rooms and turns it into agentic intelligence. Where most systems only record what happened, Proximie's models instead anticipate problems before they arise and act in real time, a shift from recording to acting that allows operating rooms to run an extra case a day and has lifted OR productivity by up to 24 per cent, work that led CNN to call Proximie the "Future of Surgery."
Proximie is now deployed in over 700 ORs across more than 50 countries, connected with more than 40 MedTech partners and is growing threefold year on year. It has built one of the world's largest repositories of real world surgical intelligence, data that now trains the foundation models behind the next generation of healthcare AI through Project Rheo, an NVIDIA initiative in which Proximie's ambient surgical data is helping to train systems that recognise surgical milestones in real time and trigger robotic action.
Nadine has been outspoken about the discipline required to bring new technology into healthcare responsibly, arguing that AI tools cannot simply be handed to frontline clinical staff and left to be adopted on their own, and that hospitals and health tech companies alike need to invest properly in training, workflow redesign and change management if new tools are going to be trusted and used at the bedside or in theatre.
She has carried that same philosophy into how she leads Proximie, building a culture where curiosity and adaptability are valued as highly as experience, and where the whole organisation is encouraged to embrace new technology rather than simply deploy it.
Nadine was awarded the British Empire Medal in the late Queen's Birthday Honours, was selected to join the New York based Endeavor entrepreneur programme, and sits on the Royal College of Surgeons' Commission on the Future of Surgery, and she continues to practise as Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Director of Clinical Innovation and Strategic Partnerships at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in London.
