About:
Sandy is a New York City-based performer, currently studying at The Institute for American Musical Theatre. Born and raised in San Diego, California, Sandy's love for the performing arts began at the age of three when she first stepped onto the stage. Dancing through life, she has trained in a variety of dance styles including ballet, pointe, tap, rhythm tap, jazz, jazz funk, hip hop, contemporary, lyrical, and flamenco. It was the storytelling aspect of dance that first inspired her to try musical theatre, leading her to take part in a production of Newsies during her freshman year of high school. This experience changed her perspective on performance and ignited a deep passion for telling powerful stories through movement, song, and acting. At 17 years old, Sandy had the opportunity to perform in her first professional production, Beauty and the Beast, at Moonlight Amphitheatre. It was through working with, seeking mentorship from, and performing alongside these industry professionals that gave her the utmost confidence to apply to colleges for performing arts and to continue pursuing her performing dreams. Sandy attended the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment at Oklahoma City University for two years before being presented with the life-changing opportunity to attend a two-year conservatory program at The Institute for American Musical Theatre in New York City. Choosing to complete her bachelor’s degree online through OCU, she moved to New York to train in and experience art across all aspects in the greatest city in the world! Now in her final year at IAMT, Sandy has already been blessed with numerous opportunities to perform, network, and create meaningful work. Some of her highlights so far include landing her dream role of Val in A Chorus Line and working on the pre-production for the The Addams Family national tour. With deep gratitude for her experiences thus far, Sandy looks forward to continuing to grow as an artist and contributing to the magic of the musical theatre community in every way she can.
