LaVetra Sullivan

LaVetra Sullivan resides in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She is a 1991 graduate of Kingstree Senior High School in Kingstree, South Carolina. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Mass Communications from Francis Marion University in Florence, SC, in 1995. In 2005, she earned a Master’s in Literacy from Lesley University, Cambridge, Massachusetts. She completed the Education Specialist Degree Program in Organizational Leadership from Columbia International University in May 2024, and she is now enrolled in the National Aspiring Principals’ Fellowship. In 2003, she began teaching at Calhoun County High School in St. Matthews, S.C., where she is still employed. She has served as Teacher of the Year, Freshman Academy Lead Teacher, After School Homework Center Coordinator, and advisor for various clubs and organizations. She has taught ninth through twelfth-grade English for the past twenty-four years. She currently serves as the English Department Chairperson. She has also taught Reading, Journalism, African-American Literature, Public Speaking, and Drama. She has written two books, entitled Can I Borrow Some Trust? and I’m Free. She has two wonderful daughters, Diamond and Emerald, from a fourteen-year marriage. Her goals in life include continuing her studies and impacting society through writing and acting. Her favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11, “I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper and not fail. To give you a future and hope.”
