Joyce Williams

My name is Joyce Williams, born and raised in the beautiful parish of St. Thomas, Jamaica, in July 1953. In 1965, at just 12 years old, I boarded the very first BOAC flight from Jamaica to the UK to join my parents and siblings. It was a whole new world, but I embraced it with open arms, carrying my roots and culture with me every step of the way. Nottingham became my new home town at the age of 12. In 1976, I got married, raised a family, and trained as a nurse at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. Nursing became my lifelong passion, and I dedicated over 40 years to the NHS before retiring in 2015. But even in retirement, I’ve never stopped giving back. Every year, I return to Jamaica—not just for the sun, the food, and the joy of being home, but to share my skills. I work closely with two clinics, one in Mandeville and one in St. Thomas, providing nursing training and support. Family is my greatest blessing. I have two wonderful daughters, four beautiful grandchildren (two boys and two girls), and now a great-grandson who keeps me on my toes! My faith is also a big part of my life, and I’m an active member of my church, always ready to lend a hand and be part of the community. Life has taught me resilience, laughter, and the importance of enjoying every moment. Now, I’d love to step into something new—bringing my personality, warmth, and lived experience to the screen.
