Fard Abdul Saleem Muhammad
About:
Here's a brief, but note this bio is currently in the making and yes, I can pass for 30 years old because I eat to live. (updated 8/25/2022) Fard Abdul Saleem Muhammad born Philip Mercier in 1970 started his entertainment career as a well-known and original human beatbox during the early mid 80’s. However, it all started in the lobby of his uptown Manhattan apartment building and when he was around 7 years old. While walking through it with his mother, he heard an old man do a superb bird sound. He already loved making unique sounds with his mouth such as of animals, instruments, and lasers, but it was at that time where he decided that he was going give bird sounds a shot. It didn’t take long before he was making these sounds as well as the old man did. His mother later decided to move from Manhattan to Far Rockaway Queens to what was known as one of the toughest Housing Projects in New York City, Edgemere Houses now known as Ocean Bay. In 1883 after hearing the song “Sucker Mc’s” by RUN-DMC he was determined to become a rapper and named himself “MC King”. He loved doing the beat to Sucker Mc’s with his mouth and sounded like a real drum to the amazement of his peers. He also loved theatrical arts and classical music. His mother often played Masterpiece Theatre when it was bed time. And like most children back then he was very much a fan of Michael Jackson, and often entered neighborhood dance contests. As time progressed his skills as a human sound FX generator improved tremendously.
He was then known as “BeBox Phil” aka Sensonic and had no rivals as he was recognized by the streets as the King Beatbox of Fredrick Douglass Housing Projects where he lived at the time. Because of these students at his then Jr. High School (Joan of Arc JHS 118) who urged him to battle one of the top human beatboxes in the city who attended Norman High School. And since the streets demanded the battle occur, Mr. Muhammad obliged by selecting the battle grounds. He set the rules with equality at the heart and won the battle which he organized along with the help of hundreds hip hoppers from both schools who spread the word, and that’s how what may have been the first ever human beatbox battle was organized and accomplished. During the golden era of Hip Hop Mr. Muhammad performed at various clubs and venues including the 135 Street YMCA where he was invited to perform the human beatbox while sharing the stage with popular recording artist such as KRS One of Boogie Down Productions. Word spread fast about his accomplishments throughout the city. He then joined a rap group which was well known for performing at Harlem World named DJMC’s. He eventually became the lead rapper. His name morphed into “Senson” short for “Sensonic”, and with the groups permission he changed the group name to Project Demolition. Shortly thereafter Mr. Muhammad became professionally recognized as an entertainer after Project Demolition signed by the legendary Bobby Robinson (R.I.P.) to Enjoy Records. And in 1988 he released his first solo recording entitled “Kik It In Your Crib”. His enlightening song earned him an invitation and meeting at the home of the legendary Gordon Parks (R.I.P.). Shortly thereafter he performed the role of an undercover police officer in an off Broadway play called “Crack the Murderer” with opening rap acts Main Source and X-Clan at the New Jersey State Theatre. The thunderous applause from the crowd sealed his trajectory.
Throughout the golden age of Hip Hop 90’s Mr. Muhammad’s stage name morphed into from “Senson” to “Senistar” which means “A Star Sent”. He performed his music in various night clubs throughout New York City such as The Cotton Club, Club Demerara’s, The Castle, and more. And in shortly after the Million Man March on Washington in 1995 he developed his own artist development and record company called God’s Water Entertainment. He tutored artists whom he found to have potential while perfecting his own skills as a film and music producer. He loved creating music videos for his artists, while serving as a booking agent and trainer. Also during this golden age of Hip Hop between the 90’s and 2000’s Mr. Muhammad also performed as an opening act for Grammy Award winning Jody Watley of Shalamar in Harlem at Harlem Week. He eventually became a background singer and liaison for Grammy Award winner Irene Cara. He also became an opening act for Ms. Cara as she introduced her new band in New York City, “Hot Caramel” in New York City. Under the name “Senistar”, Mr. Muhammad performed a 16 bar solo on “Keep on Moving”, a cover by Irene Cara, which was originally recorded by Grammy Award winning British group Soul 2 Soul.
In 2013 Mr. Muhammad became a sole videographer and technician for AUDELCO award winner Phyllis Yvonne Stickney at Mist Harlem Theatre. During this tenure he transitioned to a theatrical performance during a live reading produced by Ms. Stickney.
During these exciting moments in Mr. Muhammad’s history he worked various fields of employment which include Executive Protection Services, Loss Prevention, Customer Service, Computer Repair, Technical Support and even as a Merchandise Supervisor at Madison Square Garden. He also served as a security officer at Uptown Records (prior to the birth of Bad Boy Entertainment), an Estate Protection Officer for Hip Hop mogul Russel Simmons, Bodyguard for Mekhi Phifer’s appearance at Macy’s Herald Square and the list goes on. His reputation for reliability earned him invitations to secure top dignitaries and leaders of premiere organizations such as US Attorney General Eric Holder, Percy Sutton, Al Sharpton, and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.
Mr. Muhammad is trained in the art of Sanuces Ryu Jujutsu, Taekwondo and other highly effective forms of hand to hand combat. He also is trained in the use of fire arms, including small arms, rifle and shotgun. He intends to utilize his experiences to continue to embark on a new path within the entertainment industry as an upcoming actor and director, God willing.
