About:
Cristina Vizir is a contemporary dance-theatre artist whose practice spans creation, research, and teaching. She is based in Portugal, where she moved to study dance-theatre with the Olga Roriz Company, completing the programme in 2020. Since then, she has worked as a performer and creator with choreographers and artistic directors in Portugal and France, including Christian Ubl, Emmanuel Tussore, theatre director and actress Sara Carinhas in the production LIMBO, and Marta Reis Jardim in the dance productions Alucinação26 and Travessias. She has also taken part in large-scale productions, including Kadamati by Akram Khan, created to commemorate the centenary of the First World War, as well as multidisciplinary projects bringing together dance, theatre, and installation art. She performed an excerpt from Antes que matem os elefantes (Before They Kill the Elephants) by the Olga Roriz Company at the TODOS Festival, and more recently collaborated with choreographer Teresa Simas and the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra. Alongside her work as a performer, she has been developing her own choreographic projects, including the contemporary solo Ineunte (2023), created to the music of Mario Batkovic. In 2019, under the guidance of Magalie Lanriot, she discovered vertical dance and became fascinated by the relationship between gravity, architecture, and the illusion of weightlessness. Since then, she has immersed herself in this practice and has recently begun teaching vertical dance and harness techniques. Through several years of specialised training and performance, she has developed extensive experience working in a harness, making her a confident and skilled aerial performer, comfortable acting and performing while suspended. Alongside her dance practice, she has also trained in fight choreography for cinema with Tiago Graça, a former student of David Chan Cordeiro, director and founder of Madstunt, one of Portugal's leading stunt companies. She has also dedicated herself to martial arts, including aikido, kung fu, tai chi, and especially capoeira. These practices have become an integral part of her movement language, bringing strength, precision, and fluidity to her work while deepening her interest in how movement shapes perception and identity. Whether grounded on the earth or suspended in the air, her artistic practice is a search for ways to dissolve the boundaries of fixed identities.
