Hayden Panettiere’s former fiancé, Wladimir Klitschko, is asking for greater legal authority to protect the late actress’ estate amid allegations that some of her jewelry and other personal belongings may have been pawned after her death.
The former professional boxer claims a person outside Panettiere’s family who was previously connected to the actress may have taken some of her possessions to a pawn shop. Klitschko is now seeking the ability to request law enforcement assistance in recovering the property, according to court documents reported by multiple outlets.
The developing legal dispute comes after Panettiere, known for her work in Heroes, Nashville and the Scream franchise, died on August 16, 2026, at age 36. Authorities determined her death was the result of an accidental drug overdose.
Wladimir Klitschko Claims Panettiere’s Jewelry Was Pawned
According to the latest court filing, Klitschko believes a non-family member previously associated with Panettiere pawned property belonging to the actress, including what he believes was jewelry.
Klitschko reportedly contacted the pawn shop connected to the alleged transaction. However, he claims the business would not disclose information about the items unless law enforcement became involved.
That has created urgency around his request because Klitschko fears the property could eventually be sold to other buyers, potentially making recovery more difficult.
The allegations have not been established as fact in court, and reports do not identify the person Klitschko believes may have been responsible.
His latest filing asks that, if he is appointed guardian of his daughter’s estate interests, he also receive the authority necessary to request and authorize a law enforcement investigation into Panettiere’s allegedly missing property.
The Dispute Is Connected to Daughter Kaya’s Inheritance
The jewelry allegations are part of a broader legal effort involving Panettiere and Klitschko’s daughter, Kaya.
Klitschko filed a petition in Los Angeles County probate court in September seeking temporary guardianship related to the 11-year-old’s estate interests. Kaya is reportedly entitled to inherit her mother’s estate, making the preservation of Panettiere’s property particularly important to the guardianship proceedings.
Klitschko has argued that having the appropriate legal authority would allow him to manage and protect assets belonging to his daughter.
While Klitschko already has custody of Kaya, the guardianship request involves his ability to act on her behalf in matters surrounding her inheritance and Panettiere’s estate.
The court had not ruled on the request at the time of the latest reports.
Klitschko Previously Raised Concerns About Missing Property
The pawn shop allegations are not the first time Klitschko has expressed concern about what happened to Panettiere’s belongings.
In an earlier petition, he claimed some jewelry was missing or unaccounted for and raised concerns about other property belonging to the actress.
Klitschko also said federal agents had accessed Panettiere’s home and removed property as part of an investigation. His petition argued that an estate representative would eventually be needed to recover and properly manage those items.
The filing further claimed Panettiere had hired a security company before her death because of concerns that someone had gained unauthorized access to her property.
Following her death, according to Klitschko’s filing, locks at the residence were changed and storage containing designer clothing and accessories associated with Panettiere’s public appearances was relocated as a precaution.
These claims remain allegations contained in court filings and should not be treated as findings that a particular person committed wrongdoing.
Panettiere’s Family Supports Klitschko’s Guardianship Effort
People close to Panettiere’s family have publicly expressed support for Klitschko’s effort to represent Kaya’s interests.
Sources connected to the family told TMZ that they support his guardianship filing and described him as a dedicated father.
Panettiere and Klitschko began dating in 2009 and later became engaged. They welcomed Kaya in December 2014 before ultimately separating in 2018.
Despite the end of their romantic relationship, the pair remained connected through their daughter.
Questions Have Also Emerged Over Panettiere’s Personal Effects
The legal questions surrounding Panettiere’s belongings extend beyond the property Klitschko claims may have been pawned.
Reports indicate that her parents, Lesley Vogel and Skip Panettiere, have also disagreed over where earrings Panettiere was wearing at the time of her death should be sent.
According to reporting based on the coroner’s documentation, the earrings were removed during the autopsy and secured for safekeeping. Because conflicting instructions were reportedly given about where to send them, officials said the belongings would not be released until the issue was resolved.
The dispute illustrates the complications that can arise when personal property becomes part of an estate following a sudden death.
Hayden Panettiere’s Death at 36
Panettiere died on August 16, 2026, while in South Carolina.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office determined that her death resulted from an accidental overdose involving multiple substances.
Following her death, Klitschko publicly mourned Panettiere and shared a family photo featuring the actress and their daughter.
Her death prompted tributes from fans and entertainment industry colleagues who remembered a career that began when Panettiere was a child actor and eventually included major television and film roles.
She became particularly recognizable for playing Claire Bennet on NBC’s Heroes before starring as Juliette Barnes on the country music drama Nashville. Her film credits also included multiple appearances in the Scream franchise.
What Happens Next With Panettiere’s Estate?
The immediate legal question is whether Klitschko will receive the guardianship authority he is requesting.
That decision could determine his ability to formally act on Kaya’s behalf in matters involving Panettiere’s estate, including efforts to locate and potentially recover missing property.
Klitschko maintains that quick action is necessary to prevent assets from disappearing or being transferred before they can become part of Kaya’s inheritance.
Until authorities or the court establish what happened to the allegedly missing belongings, however, the claims surrounding the pawned jewelry remain allegations.
The case highlights a less visible issue that can follow the death of a public figure: protecting intellectual, financial and personal property while an estate is being organized.
For entertainment professionals, an up-to-date estate plan can provide clearer instructions about ownership and management of valuable assets, including real estate, contracts, royalties, memorabilia, wardrobe, jewelry and other personal property.
As the proceedings continue, further court filings could provide additional clarity about Panettiere’s estate and Klitschko’s efforts to safeguard their daughter’s inheritance.
