Jamie Lee Curtis Drew the Line at One Thing on Set
Actress Sophia Hammons is sharing behind-the-scenes secrets from the highly anticipated Disney sequel Freakier Friday.
During an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the 2025 Women in Film (WIF) Honors, the 18-year-old actress revealed that her legendary co-star Jamie Lee Curtis was open to almost everything—except singing.
“That’s the one thing about Jamie. She’s always like, ‘I’m not going to sing,’” Hammons said with a laugh. “Otherwise, she’s game for all of it. She’s so collaborative and always open to other people’s ideas.”
A Hilarious Blooper on Set
Hammons also recalled one memorable scene that didn’t quite go as planned.
“We were just shoving doughnuts in each other’s mouths,” she shared. “I’m pretty sure Jamie ate 36 doughnuts that day! But again, she’s game for it. She’s awesome.”
The blooper moment has already become a fan-favorite anecdote among cast and crew, perfectly capturing Curtis’s playful energy on set.
‘Freakier Friday’: A New Chapter in the Beloved Comedy
The sequel to Disney’s 2003 hit Freaky Friday sees Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprising their iconic mother-daughter roles as Tess and Anna Coleman.
This time, Anna has grown up and has a daughter of her own, Harper Coleman (played by Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s Julia Butters), as well as a soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily Reyes—played by Hammons.
When Lily and Tess accidentally switch bodies, chaos (and heartwarming lessons) follow.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better person to switch with,” Hammons said of Curtis. “She’s lovely, strong, and watching her work taught me so much.”
Jamie Lee Curtis: Mentor and Role Model
Hammons says Curtis wasn’t just a co-star—she was a mentor.
“She’s given Julia and me advice, but more than that, watching how she treats everyone on set has been so meaningful,” Hammons shared. “I remember auditioning and thinking, ‘I want to be like her.’ And now we’re friends. It’s a full-circle moment.”
Curtis, who received the Jane Fonda Humanitarian Award at the event, also reflected on the next generation of talent.
“The younger generation like Sophia Hammons and Julia Butters—they’re the next ones up to bat,” Curtis told PEOPLE.
Curtis Celebrates the End of Filming
Back in August 2024, Curtis marked the end of filming on Freakier Friday with an emotional Instagram post.
“It’s a WRAP! Lots of laughs, a little blood, much sweat, and copious tears,” she wrote. “I’m thrilled to have been reunited with Lindsay and to watch new talents like Sophia and Julia shine.”
The movie promises a mix of nostalgia and fresh energy—uniting longtime fans with a new generation of Disney audiences.
