The #1 Question Every Actor Should Ask Their Talent Agent

Date:

The number one question every actor should ask their talent agent.

After you decide to become an actor, model or talent you have a few steps you have to take. The first one is finding a photographer to take your head shots, then you need to find a talent agent. Typically, your agent will help you find jobs, auditions, open casting calls and lead you in a direction to bigger and better productions.

But, what do you do when you feel like your talent agent isn’t helping your acting career? Well, have no fear Project Casting is here. The best way to find out if your talent agent is actually working for you is by asking this one question, “Can you send me a submission report?”

What is a submission report? It is a list of acting jobs they are submitting you for. This is the best way to tell if your talent agent is aggressively searching for acting jobs for you. A good and reputable talent agent would send you a detailed history of every acting job they have submitted for you. If not, then it’s a major red flag and you may want to consider hiring a new talent agency.

What do you do when you feel like your talent agent is aggressively helping you find acting jobs and auditions? You may want to feel like you to curse the agency out over the phone but, that is probably one of the worst things you can do. Just write your agent a nicely worded email explaining how you feel. Say something along the lines of all the recent changes you’ve had and your representation with her hasn’t been a fit and you’ve found an agency that you think better fits your needs. Let them know how much you’ve enjoyed working with them and thank them.

It’s never a good idea to burn bridges in the entertainment industry.
