The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus shares his best acting tips, secrets and life lessons.
Norman Reedus is probably the most famous actor in The Walking Dead. But, he wasn’t always a fan favorite actor. Before, he became a well known actor for starring in The Boondock Saints. Reedus was just a man struggling to make it in Hollywood.
Reedus experienced ups and downs in his acting career and in many cases he was cast in very small roles in big movies or lead roles in movies that went unnnoticed. Because of that, he knows what it’s like to be a superstar and a struggling actor. He shared CNBC what he learned from those tough years when he thought his acting skills weren’t going to pay the bills.
“I mean, I’ve lived off $12 a month for probably a good portion of my life. If it’s something you really want, you have to roll with the rejection,” Reedus explains.

Reedus says that one one of the most difficult things to do as an actor is audition. Reedus recalls one particular impossible audition experience he had when he was younger. He explains, “I remember a long time ago I auditioned for something, and the casting person said, ‘Can you do it again but try to be better looking, like that guy from Lost?’ I went, and I looked up Lost, and I was like, ‘There’s no way I’m going to be better looking than that guy from Lost.’”
So what did Norman Reedus learn from that acting experience? Don’t try to be someone your not. He explains, “You just kind of have to realize it’s cool to be you, and just try to be the best you.”
