Typically, mental health in the workplace is a topic that is not discussed with actors. But, actors are tasked with expressing extreme despair, rage, illness, dysfunctional, and violent experiences. These acting jobs can trigger a guarded wound and can yield emotional problems on one’s well-being and relationships.
Earlier this month, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation released a video discussing mental health and provided ways on how to deal with physical and psychological issues after a movie, TV, or commercial has wrapped. The panel includes Dr. Thalia Goldstein, an Assistant Professor of Applied Developmental Psychology at George Mason University, Erin B. Mee an Assistant Arts Professor for the Undergraduate Drama department at the Tisch School of The Arts – New York University, and several actors and a licensed mental health counselor.
