Will Smith Reveals His Secret to Staying Famous

Date:

How far would you go to become and stay famous? For Will Smith that meant not drinking for over ten years to stay camera-ready.

Will Smith revealed he stayed away from alcohol for over ten years when he was a rising film actor. Training for a half marathon in Cuba as his latest challenge on his Facebook Watch series “Bucket List” the actor admitted he has not been as disciplined lately when it came to his fitness routine compared to when he was becoming an A-list talent.

“I think of all the bucket lists this is the one I’m most concerned about, he said. “Like, in my deepest honesty with myself, I really am not sure if I can run 13 miles.”

To prepare for the race, Will Smith, who is 50, did extreme training drills and had a cardio test completed by a physician. During the physical exam, Smith explained he is not used to not being happy with what he sees in the mirror.

“Being this far out of shape is kind of a little bit new for me,” he admitted as he was shirtless while hooked up to an EKG machine. “I didn’t drink for over a decade. You know, during my rise as a movie star, I was, like, wildly disciplined, so being in this place in my life, even something as simple as taking my shirt off while I’m out of shape, like, you know this for me now allowing myself to be seen less than optimally is new.”

Smith completed the half-marathon in two-and-a-half hours, slightly slower than his goal of two hours and ten minutes.

“You know, 10 years ago I’d have been embarrassed, I’d have been pissed, I’d have been in my room by myself, I’d be calling a meeting with everybody to figure out what happened,” he said, but after years in the entertainment industry, he has a new perspective.

“I was willing to die to be the biggest movie star in the world, and there was nothing more important than that,” he said of his younger self. “I’m really in a different place in my life as I’ve gotten older I don’t feel the pressure of living up to the billboard image of myself like I used to, and living with these imperfections and accepting my weaknesses has brought me so much freedom. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my life.”

Will Smith’s new movie “Bad Boys For Life” is now filming in Atlanta, Georgia. Casting directors are continually looking for actors to work on the production.

The sequel has been in development for a long time. Sony announced two Bad Boys moved in 2015, but there were several delays. Michael Bay directed the first two movies. Director Bay did not like the script and often told Smith and Lawrence in discussions about how the dialogue and scenes could improve. He often allowed them to improvise while the cameras were rolling. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will be directing the sequel, which is set to hit theaters in early 2020.
