Aspiring Filmmakers: Check Out This $100K Nikon Scholarship

Nikon is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a new scholarship offering $10,000 to 10 students majoring in film and photography.

Open to undergraduate and graduate students in North American who have finished their first year of college, the Nikon Storytellers Scholarship is a new program that helps young aspiring and more often than not struggling filmmakers. The scholarships will be for use in the 2018-2019 academic school year.

“As we reflect on a remarkable and exciting 100 years of imaging excellence,” Kosuke Kawaura, Nikon Inc.’s Director of Marketing, Communications & Planning noted, “Nikon must also look to the future and continue to push the boundaries of creative expression and technological innovation. The Nikon Storytellers Scholarship encapsulates our brand’s commitment to supporting students as they strive to ignite passion and inspire change as future visual content creators.”Eligibility requirements

  • You must be an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited, non-profit college/university or vocational/technical school in the United States or Canada.
  • You must complete your freshman year of college or academic equivalent before Fall 2018.
  • You must be majoring in visual arts, fine arts, journalism, film, photography, or multimedia/content creation.
  • You must have a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average at time of application.

You will need to provide a recommendation from a professor, teacher or academic advisor. If you are selected as a semi-finalist, you will be asked to provide a photo portfolio or video submission, description of photo/video submission and copy of your academic transcript.

Key deadlines 

  • March 1, 2018: Application deadline for all students
  • March 12, 2018: Semi-finalist applications selected 
  • March 30, 2018: Application deadline for semi-finalists
  • June 2018: 10 scholarships recipients selected 

Applications are currently being accepted through March 1st, 2018. Once selections have been made, semi-finalists will be asked to provide a photo portfolio or video submission for evaluation. For further information, please click here.
