Paramount is planning on creating a ‘WorldStarHipHop’ movie.
Ian Edelman, the creator and writer behind HBO’s ‘How to Make it in America‘ is currently writing a screenplay around the popular hip-hop website.
According to reports, Paramount Insurge is looking to take the video hip hop website to the big screen.
The studio is fast-tracking a film through its Insurge label that would use the popular website WorldStarHipHop.com as a springboard for a narrative feature. Ian Edelman, the creator-writer behind HBO’s How to Make It in America, is writing the screenplay and is poised to direct the low-budget film.
Russell Simmons, the co-founder of Def Jam plans on producing the feature film alongside the founder of WorldStarHipHop, Q Worldstar. According to Deadline.com, filming will start this Fall in New York City.
Details surrounding the movie have not been released. But, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the movie will be similar to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
WorldStarHipHop.com has become an integral part of the hip-hop culture. The website is used by artists and brands to showcase music videos, singles and other products. The website receives a ton of traffic. Reports suggest that WorldStarHipHop receives 30 million unique visitors per month. But, the website is most known for their raw footage of violent street fights.
