Warner Bros.’ DC Studios has confirmed through reliable sources that there are no current plans for the production of ‘Wonder Woman 3’.
Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman’s renowned star, stirred fans’ anticipation with her recent statements in an interview preceding the SAG-AFTRA strike. During the interview with Comic Book.com, where she discussed her upcoming Netflix movie ‘Heart of Stone,’ Gadot mentioned her involvement in developing a third installment alongside James Gunn and Peter Safran. She reiterated her participation in a subsequent conversation with Flaunt magazine.
Gadot shared, “I met with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and they assured me, and I quote, ‘You’re in excellent hands. We’re committed to collaborating on Wonder Woman 3 with you. We have immense confidence in you as Wonder Woman—there’s no need to worry.’ Only time will reveal.”
Contrary to the December decision where Gunn and Safran declined Patty Jenkins’ vision for Wonder Woman 3, the current DC leadership has never included Wonder Woman 3 in their strategic plans. Ironically, Gadot tweeted her gratitude for the opportunity to portray Wonder Woman just before news emerged of Jenkins’ departure from the new DC leadership. She stated, “Years ago, the news broke that I would be taking on the role of Wonder Woman. I remain deeply thankful for the chance to embody such an extraordinary, iconic character, and above all, I’m grateful for YOU, the fans. I eagerly anticipate sharing her next chapter with all of you.”
After Jenkins’ departure, Gunn took to Twitter, noting, “We understand that satisfying every individual completely throughout the journey is improbable. However, we assure you that every action we take is in service of the NARRATIVE and the DC CHARACTERS that hold a special place in your hearts, just as they do in ours.”
Further evidence debunking the prospect of Wonder Woman 3 was evident during the January presentation by Gunn and Safran, introducing their DC Universe project titled “Gods and Monsters.” This series commences with Gunn’s movie “Superman: Legacy” scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025. Gunn and Safran’s sole Wonder Woman-themed endeavor is an upcoming live-action Max series, “Paradise Lost.” Set before Diana’s birth, Safran described it as “reminiscent of Game of Thrones,” delving into the political intricacies of Themyscira, the Amazonian homeland and Wonder Woman’s place of origin. Safran elaborated, “This drama delves into the political machinations within this society of women. How did these dynamics come into play?”
Gunn added, “What beautiful and unsightly truths underlie these dynamics? What is the power play like within this society’s influential circles?”
Patty Jenkins’ first Wonder Woman installment achieved remarkable success at the box office, representing a pinnacle for female-led projects and movies directed by women, grossing an impressive $822.8 million worldwide. However, the sequel, “Wonder Woman 1984”, faced challenges due to the pandemic, compelled to adopt a simultaneous theatrical and HBO Max release under the previous WarnerMedia administration. It garnered less than $170 million globally, as major global box office markets remained closed. In contrast to the first movie’s critical acclaim, boasting a 93% “certified fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an A CinemaScore from audiences, Wonder Woman 1984 received a 58% RT score and a B+ CinemaScore. Gadot was explicitly chosen by Zack Snyder to portray Wonder Woman, making her first appearance in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which garnered over $873 million worldwide. Gadot reprised her role as Wonder Woman in Snyder’s Justice League and recently appeared in “The Flash.”
Deadline has initiated contact with Gadot’s representatives for clarification. Any pertinent updates will be promptly shared. Warner Bros. has declined to comment on the matter.
