Verizon to Let You Pay Only for the Channels You Want

Date:

Verizon is planning on launching an Internet TV service that let’s you pay only for the channels you want.

Verizon is finally putting the customer first. The company is planning on launching its Internet-based TV service that can be watched on mobile devices in the last half of 2015.

In a Goldman Sachs investor conference, Verizon’s CEO Lowell McAdam revealed his plans for the new cable service.

Think Netflix, but with live streaming. McAdam said at the conference that the service would include programming from “the big four” networks — CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox. “No one wants to have 300 channels on your wireless device.”

The TV industry is undergoing a major change. As streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant Video and Hulu become more and more popular, cable companies are forced to change the way they do business.

Younger audience members are cutting their TV cords and opting for streaming services over expensive cable packages. According to reports, 25% of young adults that subscribe to Netflix don’t pay for TV.

Verizon is looking ahead but, if the company only plans on offering the big four networks, which is already free with a simple antenna, then they may run into a problem. But, if you put it into perspective, you can spend under 30 dollars a month and get Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and Acorn TV, that will leave you with more TV shows and programming than you know what to do with. Verizon is facing a lot of competition and their pricing may just have to be perfect.
