Bill Paxton will replace Denzel Washington in the Training Day TV pilot.
When Training Day hit theaters, I became Denzel Washington’s biggest fan. I never thought any actor could have played the lead role the way Denzel Washington did. And when the news surfaced that CBS was planning on creating a Training Day TV series, I was worried that casting directors may choose the wrong actor to replace Denzel Washington. But, according to reports, it may be too late to send CBS my list of actors I would like to see replace Denzel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emmy- and Golden Globe nominee Bill Paxton has been hired to star in the Training Day TV pilot.
The TV series is a remake that begins 15 years after the 2001 movie left off, the reboot centers on an idealistic young African-American police officer who is appointed to an elite squad of the LAPD where he is partnered with a morally ambiguous detective.
Bill Paxton will play Frank Rourke, a “veteran LAPD cop who heads up the Special Investigation Section (SIS), a unit that goes after the worst of the worst. He lives by the law of the jungle and believes that real courage is the will to chase the bad guys where the law won’t. Needless to say, Frank isn’t too keen to be babysitting a new trainee, Kyle Craig (uncast).”
We will have to wait and see if Bill Paxton can live up to Denzel Washington’s Academy Award winning performance. My bet ABC’s Marvel drama Agents of SHIELD may have some really big shoes to fill.
