Supergirl season 2 is now holding casting calls for the role of Superman.
Superman is officially joining the cast and crew of Supergirl in season 2, with casting currently underway for the role of Superman, the cousin of Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist).
According to Variety, the show’s executive producer Andrew Kreisberg released a statement on behalf of the show’s production team. “Greg, Ali and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of ‘Supergirl,’” Kreisberg said. “Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”
The superhero was often mentioned in Season 1 of Supergirl, but was never officially shown, with the show’s producers frequently stating their desire to make Kara as the main hero on the show without relying on the famous cousin.
Now that the show has moved from CBS to The CW, Supergirl the network is looking to shake up the lineup after disappointing ratings.
Superman is currently played by Henry Cavill on the big screen; Cavill has starred in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and can next be seen in the upcoming Justice League.

According to IMDB, David Rapaport Casting is the official casting director behind Supergirl and several of the other major The CW network superhero shows. According to David Rapaport Casting’s website, “David Rapaport is a Casting Director who got his start working for legendary Casting Director Mali Finn (Titanic, Terminator 2). Together they collaborated on more than 50 films and television series, including 8 Mile, 61*, All The Real Girls, Last Days, The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, and Running with Scissors. At Mali Finn’s, David learned from such distinguished directors as David Gordon Greene, James Cameron, Gus Van Sant, and Ryan Murphy.”
“I love seeing movies and TV shows and thinking, Who would I cast in that role? Or reimagining where people might fit,” Rapaport told BuzzFeed News while sitting in one of his casting suites in Burbank, California. “I feel like you need to learn that gut instinct of what works tonally for [your show] — that’s a learned instinct and it’s also a learned thing to trust your instincts.”
