‘Orange is the New Black’ Restaurant Serves Prison Food

Date:

You can now eat like a prisoner at an   restaurant.

Have you ever wanted to eat like a prisoner sitting on row? Well, here’s your chance. A new pop-up restaurant is giving Orange is the New Black  the chance to eat like the characters on the show.

On June 16 and June 17, will transform OverEasy restaurant into Litchfield Penitentiary Cafetary, and serve complimentary Litchfield grub cooked up by Singaporean chef Bjorn Shen, of Artichoke and Bird, according to reports.

The meal served is Nutraloaf – a three course meal blened together into a paste, then baked into a loaf. While it doesn’t sound good, reviews are coming in that the food is pretty delicious. From Mashable:

“Since this is not real , I’ve made this dish look and feel like a Nutraloaf, but taste much better,” Shen tells Mashable. “Mine’s made of mushrooms, cheddar, quinoa, pumpkin and nori.”

To complete the prison experience, the special Litchfield grub will be served on a plastic tray, and we heard through the grapevine that utensils might not come with it — just in case a breaks out. Prison wardens will also be present to keep the peace.

You can now make reservations at Chope. Only limited walk-ins will be accommodated to avoid prison over-crowding.

This is a pretty interesting promotion for Netflix as the company is planning on expanding their reach outside of the United States and reaching other countries. However, I’m not sure if would want to eat Nutraloaf and then binge-watch Orange is the New Black.
