The Walking Dead‘s Lauren Cohan will reportedly leave the hit TV series after six episodes of the new season.
The longtime castmember Cohan, who plays farmer Maggie Greene, first appeared on the show in season two and has since gone on to feature on 108 episodes.
Cohan has chosen to leave the long-running zombie drama after landing the lead role in ABC’s upcoming FBI series “Whiskey Cavalier”. The Hollywood Reporter reports there were efforts to renegotiate a deal with AMC that went unsuccessful and Cohan will end up only shooting six episodes of season nine.
This news comes after it was announced the leading actor in the franchise Andrew Lincoln will leave the series. Lincoln, who plays the role of Rick Grimes – a former sheriff deputy who was shot in the line of duty, assured fans that the show will be “great” but “different”.
With two of the show’s biggest characters leaving, The Walking Dead will instead make Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon the star of the show.
Norman’s character was a Prison Council member and hunter for the Atlanta Survivor Group and the last surviving member of his family. Apparently, Reedus negotiated a $20 million pay bump for his larger role.
