HULU TV Series Filming in Georgia Sparks Complaints

A new HULU TV leads to complaints

An upcoming HULU series about a young woman who convinces her boyfriend to murder her mother is sparking controversy and complaints from Georgia residents where the streaming platform is filming the .

According to the Savannah Morning News, Georgia complained about speeding. “Because Effingham County doesn't have a process in place to directly permit and regulate film , they were only required to secure a building permit for temporary structures that are in place,” Effingham County Commissioner Phil Kieffer said. “They have been amenable to working around the complaints from the neighbors, which has included hiring off-duty officers to help.”

Kieffer added he is typically “hesitant to increase regulations on any private entity,” but, “I do think we need something in place for these situations so that county staff can ensure that area residents aren't unduly burdened.”

The film later held a low country boil for neighbors and has been responsive to their concerns, location manager Steve Yetman told reporters.

Filming started in early October and shot five to six days a month. The end of February should complete filming, Steve Yetman said.

Yetman added one of the benefits of filming in Effingham County is the area can be used to portray locations in Louisiana, Missouri, and Wisconsin.

About The Act:

HULU's The Act is based on a 2016 BuzzFeed article called “Dee Dee Wanted Her Daughter To Be Sick, Gypsy Wanted Her Mom To Be Murdered.” It centers around Gypsy Blanchard (Joey King), a girl trying to escape the toxic relationship she has with her overprotective mother, Dee Dee (Patricia Arquette). Her quest for independence opens a Pandora's box of secrets, one that ultimately leads to murder.
