Background actors in Chicago are getting paid $12/hour.
On Thursday, New Deal Casting announced that NBC’s hit TV series Chicago PD will begin paying background actors $96/8. “The new base rate for general background is now $96/8hrs,” the casting company announced on Facebook. Filming for the new season of Chicago PD is expected to start filming shortly.
NBC’s Chicago PD centers on the Intelligence team located at the District 21 of the Chicago Police department. This team fights the city’s major offenses including organized crime, drug trafficking, and high profile murders.
This news comes after a report in January that background actors in Atlanta were reportedly going to receive a pay increase. Tammy Smith Casting of Atlanta, posted a Facebook message breaking the news. “we (the entire extras casting director community of Atlanta) are in the process of getting the productions to raise this rate.” While that was exciting news, Tammy Smith there have been no reports as to a pay increase for background extras in Atlanta, Georgia.
